AZ-1 Calcite - Southwest Mine, Bisbee, Arizona $40; Lustrous tabular calcite crystals completely fill the vug of this specimen. The form and quality of the calcite crystals is much better than most specimens you'll see from here. 10 x 5 x 4 Reserved
AZ-2 Malachite after Azurite- 4850' Level, Morenci Mine, Morenci, Arizona $60; Malachite has totally replaced the azurite crystals. This fine pseudo is much better and showier than my photo suggests. The only significant damage is to a single crystal located at the top center of the specimen. 5 x 3.5 x 2 Reserved
AZ-3 Calcite with Aurichalcite inclusions - Southwest Mine, Bisbee, Arizona $35; Portions of this calcite specimen are tinted light blue due to inclusions of aurichalcite. 9.5 x 10 .5 x 5 Reserved
AZ-4 Brochantite - Bisbee, Arizona $100; Very stout brochantite crystals fan out across the display surface of this specimen. These are extremely large crystals for the species! 7.5 x 5 x 5 Reserved
AZ-5 Calcite & Malachite - Bisbee, Arizona $45; Small malachite sprays have been partially covered by calcite crystals. The calcite has good form and, despite a few very small blemishes, is overall in excellent condition. 7 x 8.5 x 9
AZ-6 Malachite & Calcite - Campbell Shaft, Bisbee, Arizona $50; Good malachite crystals and "balls" are scattered about lustrous calcite crystals. Some of the malachite looks like it's either in a stalactitic formation, or maybe it's coating something else that was stalactitic. I really don't know, as I haven't seen another specimen with the same look as this one. Two previous labels are present; one anonymous, the other from George Stevens. 8.5 x 6 x 2
AZ-7 Cuprite - Cole Shaft, Bisbee, Arizona $150; Although the previous label says these are "reddish", they only look reddish under VERY strong light. The crystals are extremely sharp, and the coverage on the specimen is excellent. 5 x 5 x 2.5 Reserved
AZ-8 Malachite after Azurite - 400' Level, Czar Shaft, Bisbee, Arizona $50; Apparently some the pockets were pretty small here, and when the crystals grew they often had bits of matrix included. Over time the matrix bits either eroded out or were removed by the miners after they collected the specimens. Anyway, overall the crystal is very sharp, and is a very good pseudomorph example from this mine. 2.8 x 1 x 3
AZ-9 Malachite - Bisbee, Arizona $40; This is simply a very nice primary malachite specimen from this famous mining district. The color of this velvet-looking malachite is more like the close-up than the overall view. 6 x 2.8 x 3
AZ-10 Cyanotrichite - Grand View Mine, Coconino County, Arizona $30; Under magnification the cyanotrichite crystals are great looking on this rare specimen. Since the mine is within the boundaries of the Grand Canyon National Park collecting there is now prohibited. I'm not sure exactly when this was found though, as the previous label from the Rocksmiths doesn't have a collection date. In person this is a little paler blue than what the photos show. 5 x 3 x 2 Reserved
AZ-11 Azurite & Malachite - Cole Shaft, Bisbee, Arizona; This superb miniature features malachite "balls" and lustrous compound azurite crystals. I think the pictures say it all. 2.8 x 1.2 x 2.9 Reserved
AZ-12 Cerussite - Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine, Tiger, Arizona $45; This cerussite features the fine reticulated twinning that made these famous. Considering the delicate nature of the specimen it's in remarkable condition. Only one of the "arms" shows damage, and since it's behind another "arm" when you view the specimen from the front (1st photo) you don't even see the ding. 2.2 x 1.2 x 3 Reserved
AZ-13 Aurichalcite - 79 Mine, Hayden, Arizona $50; Tightly compacted aurichalcite balls are growing on what looks like a smithsonite matrix. It's an odd combo, and this is the only one of these that I've seen. 4.2 x 3 x 1 Reserved
AZ-14 Copper & Cuprite - Czar Shaft, Bisbee, Arizona $50; Finely crystallized wire copper has some very sharp reddish cuprite crystals in association. This is very choice under magnification! 3.2 x 1.6 x .8 Reserved
AZ-15 Malachite - Lavender Pit, Bisbee, Arizona $25; This is one of the few malachites I've seen from Lavender Pit. As would be expected, since the mining was so close to surface level, it has a slightly weathered appearance lacking the velvet look of AZ-9. 5 x 3.2 x 3 Reserved
AZ-16 Chrysocolla after Selenite - Ray Mine, Kearney, Arizona $20; This pseudomorph is in good condition overall despite a missing crystal in front. This is a true pseudo unlike the more recent chrysocolla stalactites. .8 x .4 x 2
AZ-17 Selenite & Copper - Mission Pit, Tucson, Arizona $90; This is one of the showiest specimens of this classic that I've seen. I remember first seeing these in the 1960's. Although the mine is still operating (now called the Mission Complex, a huge open-pit mine composed of the Mission, Eisenhower, Pima, Mineral Hill, South San Xavier and North San Xavier Mines) I haven't seen any of these in a LONG time. This was in the collection of a good friend, and has been in my collection until now. 4 x 4.5 x 1 Reserved
AZ-18 Malachite after Azurite - Bluebird Mine, Miami, Arizona $30; Chatoyant malachite has replaced an azurite spray on this "floater" specimen. 2.8 x 2.5 x 1 Reserved
AZ-19 Malachite & Quartz - Bisbee, Arizona $40; Acicular malachite crystals are in association with good (for Bisbee) quartz crystals. This is a pretty rare combo for this famous mining region. 6.2 x 3 x 2.5 Reserved
AZ-20 Chrysocolla after Selenite - Ray Mine, Kearney, Arizona $50; This specimen is very similar to AZ-16 except this one's a bit better, in spite of a very small imperfection at the upper right side of the main crystal. This is still a very good specimen! 1.2 x 1.3 x 2
AZ-22 Spessartine - Aquarius Mountains, Mohave County, Arizona $100; Very choice spessartine crystals are spread across the rhyolite matrix. For Arizona this is an outstanding garnet specimen. 9.5 x 8 x 2 Reserved
AZ-23 Cerussite - Mammoth-St Anthony Mine, Tiger, Arizona $150; Fine reticulated cerussite crystals cover the display surface. This is choice! 4 x 3.5 x 5 Reserved
AZ-24 Smoky Quartz - Hoover Dam area, Arizona $40; Featuring a rare S face termination, this lustrous smoky quartz crystal isn't as opaque as the photos suggest. When backlit it's fairly gemmy. From a fairly obscure pegmatite I've only seen a couple of these Smoky Quartz specimens available, and none of the others had the rare termination. 3.5 x 2.4 x 5 Reserved
AZ-25 Azurite & Malachite - Cole Shaft, Bisbee, Arizona; One of the combos that made Bisbee a premier specimen locale, choice azurite crystals are in association with malachite balls. 9 x 6 x 3.5 Reserved
AZ-26 Chalcoalumite - Grand View Mine, Coconino County, Arizona $125; Tightly compacted bright blue chalcoalumite crystals richly cover most of the surface. There are few small rubs and contact points on the display face, but due to the rarity of these specimens I decided to include it on this page. As I stated with the cyanotrichite specimen this mine is now strictly off-limits to collecting. The previous German label looks like it has some age, but again it lacks a date so I'm not sure exactly when this was found. 5 x 4 x 2.5 Reserved
