Quartz Epimorph of Fluorite

Northumberland, England

Quartz once covered fluorite crystals, which have long since been naturally etched away leaving a cast, or epimorph.   Later deposits of sphalerite and siderite add definition and interest to the specimens.   These are all good sharp specimens, and they look a lot better in person than in the photos!

EP-4    Quartz epimorph of Fluorite, with Sphalerite & Siderite - North String, Coalcleugh Mine, West Allendale, Northumberland, England     $50;    Front and back views.   The siderite on the back (lower photo) is more lustrous than normal.   For some reason the siderite on the back side of most of these has more of a matte luster.    6 x 5.5 x 1.2    Reserved

EP-5    Quartz epimorph of Fluorite, with Sphalerite & Siderite - North String, Coalcleugh Mine, West Allendale, Northumberland, England     $50;    The front (top photo) of this specimen has a very slight rub, which can be seen in the upper center part of the specimen.    The reverse side of this dome shaped example is very sharp, and the matte luster siderite is light enough to revel the great detail of the epimorphs.   I think both sides of this one are very displayable.    7.7 x 6.5 x 2.4    Reserved
