CG-1    Gold - Dixie Mine, Idaho Springs, Clear Creek County, Colorado    $50;    Trigons, octahedral faces of crystals, are easily visible under magnification on this specimen.   Once you know what to look for you can spot these without magnification as well.    Individual gold crystals line the serrated edge at the top of the specimen.    A nice bright affordable specimen from this famous mine.     Size:  1 x .6 x .1

CG-2    Gold - Dixie Mine, Idaho Springs, Clear Creek County, Colorado    $45;    There are trigons on this specimen, but you'll need magnification to see them.   This is a good showy specimen that also sports some individual gold crystals on the top edge.     Size:  1.3 x .7 x .1     Reserved

CG-3    Gold - Farncomb Hill, Breckenridge, Summit County, Colorado    $45;    The following is from an article covering Colorado gold specimens by Ed Raines in the July/August 1997:  "Many specimens are simply labeled either 'Farncomb Hill' or 'Wapiti group.'   Leaf gold is the most common habit shown by Farncomb Hill specimens.  ...  In addition to leaf gold, 1-mm diameter wires, measuring from 1 to 3 cm in length, have also been found in these deposits. Larger wires are rare, but the Denver Museum of Natural History has wire specimens measuring 4-5 mm in diameter and 5 cm in length. Some wires, especially thinner ones, appear relatively smooth, but many exhibit lengthwise striations. Rarely, wires are composed of octahedral crystals in parallel growth. Both the Wire Patch and Ontario mines are known for fine wire gold specimens (Ransome 1911; Raines and Smith 1987)."

Under magnification you can see that this specimen is essentially one very elongated gold crystal (that has sharp edges) with numerous small crystals growing along its length.   Size:  2.3 x .1 x .1    Reserved

CG-4    Gold - Farncomb Hill, Breckenridge, Summit County, Colorado    $55;    As above, but the very sharp crystal form is even more evident because this one lacks the small crystals growing on this fine elongated crystal.    Size:  1.9 x .1 x .1

CG-5    Gold - Farncomb Hill, Breckenridge, Summit County, Colorado    $40;    Another elongated crystal with overgrowths, and just a bit of matrix attached.   These specimens are much better than poor photography indicated!    Size:  1.4 x .2 x .2    Reserved

CG-6    Gold - Farncomb Hill, Breckenridge, Summit County, Colorado    $150;    This impressive group of elongated crystals features a "rams horn" crystal, visible in the upper right in the large photo.   This crystal is a textbook sharp example of this desirable form!    The collector I got these from used hot glue to attach the specimens to the bases.   The small glue "stringers" visible in the photos aren't nearly as noticeable when viewing these in person.    Size:  1.2 x 1.1 x .3    Reserved
